Ometepe Accommodations

Ometepe Biological Field Station is located along on the edge of Lake Nicaragua.  You have spectacular sunsets, a fantastic rear view of Volcan Maderas and front view of the lake.

Facilities include main house, kitchen, four student cabins with 16 rooms, staff house, a library/laboratory/ lecture hall (giant tiki hut), potable spring running water and electricity (standard voltage and outlets), boat ramp and dock.  Each dormitory cabin has showers (no hot water), flush
toilets and beds for 4-6  students per room. The station also has a boat available for emergency transportation. If you like fishing, bring your fishing pole. The kitchen staff at both stations prepares group meals tree times a day.

Meals are served buffet style and include a combination of traditional Central American cuisine and also typical North American dishes. Meals include fresh fruit, home made cheese and vegetables, yucca, heart of palm and other foods local to the region. The Lake provides us with fresh fish products and our beef comes from local free ranging animals. Efforts are made to accommodate those with medically related dietary needs.

Meals are vegetarian in nature; some meals contain meat but not all.

The guardhouse: The stations dormitories are gated and the door is monitored by a guard at the guard house. The lodge were you stay has a trail behind it that takes visitors to the San Ramon Waterfall. You will see tourist walking to the trail through property. A guard at the front gate provides access and security to the compound.  Since you are staying at a lodge a tourist or tourist group may be encounter from time to time and will share the dining facility with you. The may be more than one class scheduled during your session.

Rentals: Bikes, kayaks and horses, these can be rented at Hacienda Merida a walk from the Field School.

Our cd rom shows Ometepe students participating in the eco challenge. You see students riding bikes and horses and so on, that is the daily agenda for the Eco challenge. Students taking classes have other agenda (see class description). A day will be set a side so you can do one of these
activities. On your day off you may choose to hike the volcano (San Ramon Crater lagoon) 11 hours or hike the water fall (Ramon Water Fall) 3 hrs or ride bikes around the island (to see the petroglifs), or Kayak to Monkey island. You may choose your day off activity upon arrival and as a group.

La Suerte Biological Field Station does not have Bikes, kayaks and horses.
